Presenter: TBD 10:00am Break and Vendor Visits 10:10am Five Stages of Caring Course Description: This lecture with discussion, questions, and answers will introduce the original and contemporary understandings of Kubler-Ross' Stages of Grief. Followed with a discussion of how the five stages present in various ethnic and socio-economic populations. Coping skills are taught for each stage. It concludes with a discussion of basic listening and counseling skills. Presenter: Dr. Jerry L. Turner 11:10 Suicide Awareness Course Description: A presentation on suicide prevention will guide administrators/staff through statistics; key elements in awareness; clarify common misconceptions; and discuss prevention procedures. Emphasis will be on developing relationships, dialogue, observations, and appropriate/timely response to suicide threats and/or attempts. Time is allotted for discussion. A course note-taking guide is provided. Presenter: Dr. Jerry L. Turner 12:10pm Free Lunch and Vendor Visits 1:00pm Hypertension Course Description: This presentation will define the three major types of hypertension in adults and elderly. It will review the interaction of certain drugs with hypertension; related health problems; physical limitations; respiratory issues; and more.
